Living in Philly, you’re likely accustomed to big city lights—as your Dalian on the Park apartment is right in the middle of all of the action of one of the nation’s most bustling cities. But when the holidays arrive, the usual city lights turn red, green and all shades of the holidays, as Philly welcomes the season to the city. The scores of holiday light displays in the region range from a more than century old light show at nearby Macy’s to a full block of holiday cheer in South Philly—and everything in between, providing lots of opportunities to take in the wonder of the holiday season, make some eye-catching memories and even establish some new holiday traditions.
About 1.5 miles from your Dalian on the Park apartment is one of the city’s most renowned light displays: the Holiday Festival and Electrical Spectacle Holiday Light Show at Franklin Square. More than 75,000 twinkling lights flash and dance to a holiday soundtrack every night through New Year’s Eve. The centerpiece of the show is the nearly 200-year-old fountain in the middle of the historic park, which features dazzling water effects and colored lights, all set to your favorite holiday tunes. The fountain recently underwent major renovations and is back this year better than ever—as is the larger-than-life kite statue that is an ode to Ben Franklin and that will, of course, be lit in all the brightest holiday hues.
While the lights alone are enough of a reason to visit Franklin Square, there’s a lot more to see and do at the holiday event. Grab a seasonal brew or warm spiked cider and kick back with your crew in front of a fire pit to enjoy wintertime in Philly, or get caught up on your holiday shopping by strolling the many vendors that set up shop in the park.
Happy holidays!
